Volunteer Experience

Al Dhafra Hospitals - 200 Hours

Al Dhafra Hospitals consist of 6 hospitals and 6 medical clinics around the Western Region of the UAE and I have volunteered to work in their IT department as a means of gaining work experience, knowledge, and volunteer to help these hospitals. I worked with the IT team to learn about the different sections under the IT department. Each week I worked with a different team but mainly I was in the user support team solving hardware/software issues that doctors, nurses, or any staff member faces.

I also worked with the networking team and learnt about their cloud and how all the devices within these 6 hospitals are connected to one network . They explained to me how they used switches, ip-address configurations and VLANs to integrate their ecosystem.

Emirates Red Crescent - 12 Hours

Whenever any sort of aid is needed anywhere in the world or even in the UAE, the Emirates Red Crescent seeks volunteers to help the community. In the time that I have volunteered, I went to public attractions such as supermarkets and malls to raise awareness of the drought happening around the world and how it is affecting people. This helped the community in empathizing with the people who suffer due to drought and possibly donate to help these people. Moreover, Muslims celebrate Eid twice a year and on Eid-Al-Adha, Muslim families would sacrifice some livestock such as sheep, cows, and camels. Emirates Red Crescent gives families in need meat from the slaughtered animals and I was managed the distribution of meat to these families.

Fazaa Service - 100 Hours

One of the requirements to graduate from my school is to have at least 100 hours in Fazaa Service prior to graduation. Any events or activities that take place in the school or outside of school with the approval of the school counts towards these hours.

I have done the following as of now:

  • Guided guests & VIP members around the school campus.
  • Cleared beaches of trash.
  • Organized school events.
  • Represented the school through speeches to parents and VIP members.

Capital Area Food Bank, USA - 5 Hours

Part of the NSLC schedule included this volunteering activity at the Capital Area Food Bank. Students were separated into two groups, one group was sorting out the different foods at the warehouse while my group were assigned with packaging boxes of food. Boxes of beans, flour, sugar, cereal, oil, etc.. were in front of us. We had to open these boxes and place one piece of each food type into a separate cardboard box. Therefore, some of us were making sure that there is a steady supply of food incoming, others were placing the meals into boxes and I along with 2 other students were in charge of making sure that the boxes prepared by other students were complete and ready to be packaged. We would tape the complete boxes and place them on wooden pallets where they will be taken into the distribution area in the warehouse. In the five hours we managed to fill 560 boxes of food which according to the people at the food bank can feed over a thousand families in the US.
